Tips for some common activities in SL

MAKING A LANDMARK

A landmark in SL is like a "bookmark" for the Internet. In SL just go to the place you want a set a landmark, then:

1. Click on "world," at the top of the screen and then
2. "Create Landmark Here."  
3. A new screen will pop up on your computer showing the landmark. You can close that. The new landmark is now in your inventory in the folder labeled "landmarks."
4. To use it, just double-click the landmark in your "landmarks" folder.
5. I suggest you carefully look at the name of the landmark in your folder. Sometimes the names don't make sense.  If this happens, just right-click on the landmark in your inventory and "rename" it.

TAKING PHOTOS

Before you take a photo, you want your beautiful face in the picture, right? First, make sure that what you want to take of a picture of is behind you (your back faces it—as if someone is taking your picture in RL!). Next, to have your face in the photo in SL, you can hold down the "alt" key on your keyboard, and then the "right" or "left" arrow keys. This will turn the camera so that it shows the front of your body. To take a picture: 

1.  Click on "file," then,
2. "Take Snapshot"
3. When the snapshot preview comes up make sure "Upload a snapshot" is chosen and also be sure the image is what you want, and then click on "Upload." Each picture costs 10 Lindens (that's only 4 cents US!!)
4. Once you "upload," the photo will appear on your screen and will be in your inventory in a folder called "photo album." 
5.  I suggest you rename each photo after you take it. Otherwise it is hard to remember what each photo is about! Just right-click on the photo in your inventory and "rename" it.

MAKING A NOTECARD

1. Open your inventory
2. Right-click on the "Notecards" folder (or any folder) and select "New Note."
3. Give the notecard a name (something better than "notecard").
4. Write whatever you'd like in the notecard and save it when you are done. 
5. Give the notecard to someone else by dragging it from your inventory and onto another avatar before releasing it.

PUTTING A PICTURE, LANDMARK, OR NOTECARD INSIDE A NOTECARD  

1. Pictures--open the notecard. Next, open your inventory and find the picture you want to use, drag the picture onto the notecard (do this by left-clicking on the picture in your inventory and dragging it over to where you want it in the notecard. Then just release the left click).
2. Landmarks—open the notecard, open your inventory and find the landmark you want to use, drag it onto the notecard—easy!
3. Notecards—just like pictures and landmarks (don't open the card you are moving)
